Assignment 30

FINAL REFLECTION

The experiences this semester have been very different than my past experiences. This class has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone by means I never would have ventured if not asked to.
The interviews have been an exciting thing to do this semester, hyping up my hypothetical startup really gave me great insight if I ever wanted to start something similar in the future.

The most formative experience had to be the interviews and the book reports. I really learned a lot from them. The worst had to be the tedious and redundant tasks asked. These usually consisted of assignments that had more than one part.

Now nearing the end of the semester, though I don't see myself as a full-on entrepreneur, I do believe I have acquired the mindset for it.

My number one recommendation if they were to take this course is to keep moving forward. As long as you know to learn from mistakes, you can be a successful entrepreneur in the long run. Time management is key, as well as consistency and the quality of your work.

Assignment 29

Opportunity:

The opportunity for a rental biking service arises when an influx of college students come into a small transient town like Gainesville, Florida with no means of personal transport. This also applies to seasoned citizens of the city who either have no personal transport or would like to go to their desired destinations via the scenic route.

Every semester, more and more people (mostly students) move into the city. The number of people living in Gainsville increase by the numbers, especially when more people are staying for work or delayed semesters. This means the traffic during some times of the day is as bad as South Florida. Taking the RTS bus system is getting more and riskier depending on when you decide to mount the bus. The time you are trying to get to an individuals class or career is developing strenuous notoriety that can be best described as a gamble.

This market is restricted to these services if they do not have their own personal commuting vehicle. This market for rental service bikes serves exceptional for Gainesville's geographic location.  The safe terrain makes it very feasible for an advanced bicycle to traverse through its terrain. People should not have to resort to the RTS system, the expensive Uber and Lyft, or the imprudence of asking for a ride to get to their wanted destination. They should have the option of a cost-effective independent and timely option on their table.

Innovation

The Gator Riderz service would be open to practically anyone in Gainsville. There would be enhanced features that a member may utilize if they use a smartphone, however, people without smartphones may still use our services.

Gator Riderz bicycles will be located practically in every 3.5-mile radius in the city, close to the cities hotspots. This means it will be in the proximities of Midtown, Downtown, Butler Plaza, relevant bus stations, Newberry, and most importantly on campus.

The bike itself comes in three gears and tough but smooth tires to make it the most comfortable ride possible. Baskets are mounted in front of the bike, and memory foam cushion setting is attached to every bike. All bikes are water and rust proof.

They will be built with a geo chip so you can track where you left your own bike if you happen to misplace it. This would be a smartphone feature. Additional smartphone features include locations of nearby Gator Riderz stations, the balance of Gator Riderz virtual wallet, real-time notifications of when your ride is due to return to a station. You can also reserve bike spots for a certain allotted time to help avoid late fees. The smartphone also serves as a virtual access card for our customers that take advantage of our free membership program.

For customers without access to a smartphone, they will still be eligible to use our services via our membership cards that can be purchased at the nearest convenience store. You may load the card upon purchase or anytime.

The price for the service ranges from $10 dollars for 3 hours, $20 for 7 hours, and $30 for 12 hours. The time stops every time you mount the bike in one of our certified stations, so no time or money would be wasted. There is a 10 percent discount for all students and 11 percent discount for veterans. There are also weekly deals that are only eligible for members with access to a smartphone.

Venture Concept

This service will greatly reduce the traffic within the great city of Gainesville. People would switch to my product because this would be the first affordable and independently efficient commuting service in Gainesville. There would be no competitors for, as stated, this would be the first company offering this kind of service. The only relevant competitors would be Uber and Lyft, both expensive alternatives.

The role for the "distribution" of my service is dependent on either the physical access card each customer must purchase or the free virtual card smartphone users are entitled to. The bikes would already be mounted, ready to go, and a monthly maintenance representative would check on all bikes once a month.

The service would be led by the virtual customer service team. You may video call them via app, text, or call them with any issues. The product instructions are on every station and pretty self-explanatory.

Three Minor Elements

I believe the most important venture for this product would be the communal feeling this product will bring. It will bring people all over Gainesville together, acknowledging each other as equal members of the community. Not only this, but people who choose our services will benefit from healthier lifestyles that Gator Riderz advocates.

The next venture I would like to tackle would be having a whole Gator Riderz community. Different companies all flowing cohesively through the Gator Riderz systems. This will come by means of integrating the service with the schools' main transportation systems. With the message of community, we can initiate non-profits that would allow people to volunteer in daycares, and service events advocating public safety.

Lastly, I honestly do not know where my next entrepreneurial venture will take me. I feel like it would be something that would benefit the community, like my previous service. This first venture achieves my vision as a community activist. I want to start similar companies with the same vision: Carrying the stress of today so the customers can be successful tomorrow.

Feedback
According to the feedback I received from my peers were mainly complaints of the length.  I told them about the word count, however, they felt it be more of a sales pitch rather than an explanation of the service. For this, I abridged the original version and took out the qualities they were talking about.

Assignment 28

If the business is a success I plan on being the full-on coordinator for the first 6 years. Afterward, I will hire someone to take over the business, and if he/she runs it well enough, I will sell them the business with attached charities so I can continue to gain profits.

I have selected this particular exit strategy because I do not feel the need to work forever. I would like to enjoy my profits and start new businesses that would be beneficial to the community, continuing the trend I initiated with the first company.

I believe my exit strategy has no effect on the business because it would be after the fact. However, it would affect my investments in my future businesses. In the end, I will be a lot wiser when it comes to allocating my resources.

The book I chose is: "The Art of Social Media"
The general theme of the book is how to use social media to your advantage
The book enhanced my learning in ENT for its progressive and relevant information on how to "run a business" on different platforms.

The assignment I would make students do would be to sketch out an action plan for weekly content on any platform they would like. This would get the gears rolling and spark creativity.

The biggest surprise of reading this book is how simple it was. Literally a 60 year with the simple understanding of social media could benefit from the tips this book gives 10/10

Assignment 26

This semester, I failed as a student. I underestimated one of my classes (as I always do), and relied on my ability to come up from almost any situation for my success of this semester. This was the semester I realized my luck ran out.

Failure isn't a hard thing to grasp. Accepting your failure is not a hard thing to do either. What is truly hard is finding your own will power to get back up after your lowest. I am not saying this is my lowest, but for some, it could be. Failure has always taught me to keep a positive mindset, because what is the point of complaining? To be real, and I believe many can agree with this, no one cares about your own success but you. If you yourself do not care either, then you never learned how to fail. Failure is what shapes us to be a better person not just for yourself but to those around you. It's also what makes us human.

Get back up because no one else is going to do it for you. That is how I deal with failure. Don't let your past mistakes stunt your happiness for tomorrow. Don't be afraid to fail again, because at the end of the day you're just preventing your own success.

Existing Market

What I think is next for our business venture could possibly be Visa preloadable cards. People would have access to the funds they load on their member card and use it however they want to.

The following have already been informed of the business I am in. I asked the appropriate question asking their opinion of what we should be doing after.

Jade: "Maybe have the same system with cars?"

Mike: "Next do scooters with a premium price."

Tony "Sell relevant merchandise. That almost always goes well with the right brand"

The existing market customers were very straight forward with their opinions on where the company should grow. I believe the most plausible idea would be the merchandise. However, the scooters sound like a better idea. Cars, on the other hand, seems too excessive at the moment.

New Market

Again, I told these two people about my idea. They are retired people living on the other side of town.

Jake: The idea sounds phenomenal. We wouldn't directly benefit, however, better traffic would be nice. Scooters for the elderly would be something I am willing to invest in.

Jessica: Perfect idea. I would ask the city mayor to see if you can license some roads in Gainesville for promotion. Your idea is great, I don't have anything to contribute.

This new market was surprisingly helpful. What surprised me the most was the level of interest and genuine feedback I received from such an elderly demographic. My assumptions of an uninformed group of citizens were completely tossed out the window. The ideas they gave and advice and support were amazing.

Saying this, however, this new market was more supportive, but not really feasible. From what I mean from this is that even though they approve of the service, I do not see them actively using it. It is definitely not for them. The reason is that they are affluent elderly that don't need an affordable means of commute, especially when they are not in the best shape to conduct in such strenuous physical activity.

Assignment 24

This opportunity is huge because such a service does not exist in the city. The city is expanding by the day, and implementing a service such as Gator Riderz would be easier done now then later. The window of opportunity is relatively open, however, the longer the wait the harder it will be to take advantage of the current resources and manageable circumstances.

There would be no competitors for, as stated, this would be the first company offering this kind of service. The only relevant competitors would be Uber and Lyft, both expensive alternatives.

Weaknesses may include people that find the product unnecessary due to their strict routine.

Other factors may include potential customers that do not know how to ride a bike.

The role for the "distribution" of my service is dependent on either the physical access card each customer must purchase or the free virtual card smartphone users are entitled to. The bikes would already be mounted, ready to go, and a monthly maintenance representative would check on all bikes once a month.
